Solitude

There is beauty in solitude–a perfect little moment that’s created when someone is just in their own world, uninhibited by the thoughts or actions of others. Similarly, there is a beautiful comfort in companionship. Hearing the thoughts of another, understanding how your interests overlap and diverge represent that comfort. Understanding this balance between basking in one's own solitude and having the joy of companionship is where my interest lies. I am drawn to capturing people alone because I feel that it can authentically reveal a person’s inner headspace. However, when you add another person into the frame, the shot can still be about the internal feelings of the individual, but now it is within the context of interpersonal interactions. I think as people, we are continuously trying to figure out how to both find peace and contentment in being alone and relish in the company of others. Maybe my work shows people in the midst of that process or maybe taking these pictures is a way for me to find my own way through that process…or maybe it's both.
